Encompassing over 1200 wooded acres as well as six natural lakes and ponds, one of the things you should definitely explore is the nearby area and unique features of the cranberry bog. Massasoit State Park offers both tent and RV camping in a beautiful forested setting. You can go swimming, canoeing, mountain-biking, hiking and fishing.

Make sure you also check out the new and fully accessible playground which is amazing. There are a number of hiking and mountain biking trails throughout the park. There is also a boat launch for canoes and kayaks located at the north end of Lake Rico and plenty of places to fish from the shore.

Though you can also find the Freetown-Fall River State Forest fairly nearby, the unguarded freshwater swimming at Middle Pond is a for sure a favorite activity for many visitors. All the campsites are accessible with hard-packed surfaces, pedestal grills and fire rings to help make this a family vacation both a favorite memory and destination.

Because a big lightning strike in late 2008 damaged the park’s main underground electrical system, the campground with all of it’s campsites had been closed to the entire public for over 10 years. It wasn’t until early 2015 that the front gate was reopened after major renovations and updates were eventually made to the park.

This heavily wooded park is only minutes from Interstate Route 495 and offers an abundance of both beauty and many recreational activities to keep you pretty busy. A public recreation area that’s located on the southeast side of the city of Taunton, Massachusetts, it has some parklands that spill into the adjacent town of Lakeville.

While hiking, canoeing, walking, hiking, horseback riding and cross-country skiing are the most popular activities, the scarlet cranberry bogs in the fall against the pines are also breathtaking. Massasoit is considered a favorite of trailer campers because most of its 123 campsites are provided with both electrical and water hookups. You won’t be disappointed here.
